Grade 6 Was Hard

So I'm studying for this government job interview on Saturday. Parliamentary guiding, veerrry sexy. Especially since it's in Ottawa, only 2 hours away from Montreal. Better than 2 days, n'eh?
[I also applied to the Council for Environmental Cooperation for an internship today. Their head office is actually in Montreal, wonder of wonders. Better yet, it's actually related to law. But pays nothing.
Money, experience, the pursuit of happiness...
I don't know what I want!
Or rather... I don't know what I can get!]
Point is, this interview really has my knickers in a twist. Not because of the security check or the oral presentation. Nope, I'm worried about the written test.
Augh! An objective measure of what I know about Parliament! Worse yet, they've given us study materials! AUGH!
I've never needed a cybernetic implant more.

Let me whisper in your ear

It's fun when things are regularly normal and you're still inordinately pleased.
Last night was good times. The skit went quite well, and I managed to successfully bid on two charity auction items: karaoke with my public law professor and dinner with my criminal professor's band. 12 students at each event, should be a good party.
Good motivation to get back to work. It's interesting and never ending as always.

PS: happy birthday to Stacy and my father. Oh, and Ga-abe! Publish the pictures, I need art for my room :)

A Dry Cold

Well... last week at this time I was arriving in Montreal. I can't believe it: that weekend totally lived up to the hype. And while the weather conspired to delay me, it also conspired to save me.
Yup, we had another bout of winter storms in Halifax, starting Thursday afternoon. I opted out of Contracts to make it to the airport an hour early [my flight ended up leaving, what, 3 hours late?]. But no harm: my classmates tell me they were in Contracts for five minutes before the power went out.
Aaaannnddd my Monday classes, which I was also going to miss, also got cancelled because of the winter storm.
It's not just insane good luck. It makes for a completely guilt free weekend.
And it was wonderful.
Thursday's delicious supper.
Friday's insane cold Costco run, counterbalanced by the heat of a dozen dozen bagles in my lap. "Feels like children" Mmmm...
Saturday's marathon of debate draining me, a collective night out waking me up again.
Sunday morning, breakfast with Arran, a baaaad final round. Go and pizza.
For a while there Chris and I were doing OK. And I think we could've dropped Joanna and Medbve [whatever]. Another day.
To make withdrawl a little easier, Halifax has been very engaging this week. Pith and Substance Saturday, rehersals non stop. I was at school for 14 hours today!
Thank God for warm meals. [Thanks Eddie].
But I do miss everyone in Montreal. Thank you... spring break is just around the corner.
I can't wait.

What the Poets are Doing

School's closed.
Everything's closed. But I think the city's being sissy. This is nothin'!
It was really nice to sleep in, but now I'm bored. I *guess* I can do my readings for tomorrow. And maybe prepare some cases. Clean my room.
Or read Eddie's copy of "Maus". We have a winner!
In other weather-related news, Montreal is just a little less attractive since I learned the max temp this week is -12, more or less. Eeek! That's our minimum, at night! I will wilt like the hothouse flower that I am.

It Doesn't Take Much

What a wonderful weekend.
Pizza and a movie with Ali, Eddie, Jon: so good to see everyone again before things get too crazy.
Wanda's car yesterday. I drove carefully, fast, well. It was heaven.
Missed Mark's potluck, which is a shame. In fact, I almost missed supper completely: I got in from errands at 9:15, with the huge first year party starting at 10 pm. The day was just packed, just the way I like it.
And now I'm preparing for power failure. Apparently Wanda and Harry have a generator. Worst case scenario I'm couching it 'till the worst passes :)
I wish I had snow pants.
Four sleeps!

Send Me On My Way

I'm going to Winter Carnival!

So Excited!

I got the news yesterday morning and was dancing all day. I was surprised at the final list though: Amol's not coming and neither is Jen or Alexa. Boo-urns.
Rather, the final Dal contingent as announced by Morag is:

Chris Parsons & Sarah Pottle
Samina Thind & Alyson Horne
TJ Burke & Graham McGillivray

Hrm... all people who should be returning next year. I think Dal is club-building.
[My rough sketch of the group? They're all good people. Alyson and Samina will probably make the best first impression. Christ and Graham are more eccentric but improve on acquaintance. I'm not as familiar with TJ. But that Sarah Pottle is a b*tch. Don't invite her.]

Needless to say, next weekend promises to be a lot of fun, a very fulfilling break. It could also be an opportunity for me to examine the relative merits and pitfalls of a club presidency. Jesse says NO!
FUDU And all that jazz.

I am a hypocrite. I think that will be my platform. We'll see.

{You know what makes me feel better about it? I genuinely think Dal is less poisonous. If this were oh, I don't know, McGill, the TSC would've sent itself to WC. Jen really wanted to go [she tried to self-finance but had to give up on the idea last night], and Morag probably wanted to judge too. I doubt my personal interest in going to Monteral would've counted for anything if this exec / club weren't so fair-minded.}

I'm Back, Baby!

Good news: my back feels a hundred times better, horray! I'd started to notice improvement last night and right now it feels AWESOME. I am so happy.

It was an excellent day, actually. Eddie hooked me up with some free subway [spicy Italian never tasted so good]. Just before lunch I went to meet Nathan twin boys, Sam and Oscar. Indescribable.

And then, walking back from lunch I had a quintessential maritime experience. I jaywalked across the right land of traffic and waited for the car approaching on the left to pass. Instead, it_slowed_down [he had a green light], then *stopped* to wave me across.
This is a strange province.

I'm Used To It By Now

Sorry, sorry!

My life has been very different for the last few weeks in a way that's precluded posting. Take it as a good sign.

Today is the first day I've slept in 'till 10 and not woken to rare companionship. As I was telling my aunt Wanda, I've been cushioned from absence for more than a month now: when Air left, Emilie arrived. When Em left, Dan arrived. When Dan left, school arrived. When class finished on Friday, the Dal debating tournament arrived.

In the swirl of activity it's easy to forget how happy you are. I'm glad I get this Sunday to take stock and appreciate my activity. I still prefer weekdays to weekends because I still love my classes.

Ah, but it's been hard lately. What can I say about hurt that doesn't sound self-indulgent?
Ouch. My back pains me like a M*thrf*cker. And pain makes you self-indulgent, there's no question about that. At least I'm used to lazy days spent reading law books: if I weren't so patient this bed rest would have me baying at the moon.
Almost there :)

Cheers to Eddie for the company this weekend. And it was great to see John too. A lovely weekend.
