Day 30

Ingredients for one smashing birthday:
-one part weekend
-6 good friends
-one crazy bar
-2 birthday packages

Sometimes it all just comes together.
It all started about a week ago, when Karyn asked what I'd like to do for my birthday. "Paris" says I. And the trip just grew...
I was so glad that Alison had the day off, and she convinced Paul to come [he did require some convincing, sure that we would drag him to some aweful dance place]. Cassie had a hankering for Paris too, and Jacqueline and Jen completed the party: half the staff ended up in Paris Tuesday night.

We arrived in Paris in less than an hour: they're not kidding when they say "train a grand vitesse"!
We barely stopped to drop off our luggage before heading out to "Le Crocodile", highly recommended by Let's Go. It was a bit of a trial to get there... the latin quater can be confusing, and the bar itself is increadibly tiny. But we arrived at 2 minutes to midnight

and started ordering from the menu of more than 200 cocktails.

We cheered when the clock struck 12 - Le Crocodile has a grandfather clock somewhere - and were shushed by the waiter :p
The next morning we were up in time for the 9 am breakfast. I opened Arran's package over baguettes and coffee [thank you!] and then got a huge surprise when the guides handed over a card [addressed to Full Throttle] and a bee-autiful scarf. Both have gotten a lot of weard: love via fabric.
We spent the rest of the day visiting the Eiffel tower

and searching for La Cafe Comedie, near the Louvre, for lunch. Once the waiter found out it was my birthday he produced a croissant, complete with candle, all accompanied by Bonne Fete.
It really was a perfect day. When I called my folks from the Tour Eiffel I told them it might be my best birthday ever, and I think I was right. I still can't believe how much fun we all had. It'll be hard to beat next year, but it'll be fun to try!
