Ick ick ick

Ok. I can do this.
My contract factum is due Thursday. Augh.
I'm in my deer-in-the-headlights mode. Paralized by the task at hand.
Trying to decide if I should ignore this aversion and work through it. Or abandon it for the night and do my laundry.
Laundry.. for now.
*wimper* My tummy hurts.

Dreaming of Caramel

Favourites:
coasting down the hill while cross country skiing.
rolling out lots and lots of dough
waking up
biking with the boys
the used bookstore in Concord
long walks
Frank
moondancing

I was up early this morning: so much to do! And still, I have yet to unpack.
I'm glad I got to the gym though. That always helps me feel better, both physically and in a "I did something good for myself" sense.
Also, nothing helps chase away melancholy like a real crisis. No purse! No wallet, no money, no keys and heaven knows what else was in there. I know. I shouldn't have forgotten it. My father told me so this morning.
It's surprisingly good to be back though. I needed a break to appreciate it again.

Bob is rated "H" for hot!

"I am made of Jelly. *squeak squeak* Do you see?"
-I think you will find... you are just inside a jelly
"Damn"
-How do you breathe in there?

*pause*

"I've not thought this through, have I?"
-No

*sound of jelly boy passing out*

-Mmm..boy flavour"
*Credits*

It still makes me laugh. Visit Weebl and Bob!

Raising Hell

Oh, you should be here now. You'd like it. People are so nervous about their assignments, so excited about spring break, so tired of classes, all the weirdness is coming out of the woodwork.
IE: "Your mother used to eat cow tongues? A food that could taste you back?" One of my finer moments, over supper.
So we blew off the memo. Twice. Subway for lunch, and the Graywood for supper. Imaginus was set up in the lobby so I have some new wall art [!]
A great great day. I have 2 hours to write 5 pages:
readysetGO!

Teeth Grinding

Oh, won't somebody please get me out of my homework? School was so much more fun when there weren't assignments.
Please oh please remind me not to take a paper course. On pain of death! Prevent it at all costs!
I'm so bored I re-titled my links. The less obvious titles were getting annoying.

Like a Diamond Mine

Our student paper tells me that St. Valentine was martyred because of love. One legend reports that the Roman emperor of the time thought single soldiers were better soldiers, and so forbade young men from marrying. St. Valentine secretly married young couples anyway, and was killed when word got out.

Another legend says the Magesterium was not a fan of interracial or interfaith marriage. St. Valentine ignored the dicta, secretly married the couples anyway and was, yes, killed when word got out.

You've gotta admire a man who legitimated love in dangerous or disapproving times. That's why I prefer the second legend. I like to think that if St. Valentine was to appear today, he would've married at least a few gay couples by now.

This is my effort to say something intelligent about a holiday designed, as Stacy would put it, to "make us all schmoopy". Before I plunge into that schmoopiness, I'd like to encourage everyone to try a different take on Valentine's.

Lots of people are bitter today. The single, the forgetful and, sometimes, the long-distanced. But that's because those people suck. And Valentine's is seen as a romantic holiday.
My mother's family has a different take. They use Valentine's to tell everyone and anyone they love that they love them.
[This makes Valentine's a gold-mine for the kids, on par with Easter for cards and gifts. For the non-observant, that's somewhere slightly less than your birthday.]

I like this take. It doesn't exclude romantic love by any means, but it makes the day a little more inclusive. So call your parents! Write your friends a Valentine.

And send your significant other bunches of flowers. *bliss*
XOXOX,
Spot

Are you there toes? It's me, Spot

Brrrr..... winter is back, ferocious for having been denied for so long. Mark, Allison and I went collecting for legal aid [if you can't afford a lawyer, WE provide one for you! Lawyers for the poor!] but it couldn't have been a worse day for it. Hailing so hard it hurt.
Still, it's good to be inside. And Stacy passed by on her way to wing's night [more on that now]. We looked so cold she got us all drinks of choice. Hot chocolate for me!
Yes, wing's night at the Oasis. I've never been, but I was in just the right mood, y'know? But this morning I couldn't remember where I'd left my wallet [still can't. It's around here somewhere] so I was without ID. And tonight of all nights I was carded. Dammit.
's OK. Now I'm super dedicated to getting that property reading done. Maybe, just maybe, I might go to Karaoke night at the Domus. Just to listen.
Two posts in one day! When the spirit moves me...

If I Could Sleep Forever

I'm so sleepy, it hurt to get up this morning. Swearing helped. It's been a while since I've done that. It was fun.
Those of you aquainted with my current sleeping habits sometimes worry: is it healthy to need nine hours a night?
Ah, but I'm making up for lost time. There was a time, last year, when I couldn't sleep. I'd stay up 'till I was exhausted, finally fall asleep and wake up a scarce five or four or three hours later. Absolutely awake. Eyes.. wide open.
This happened every day for a month. Then five days a week for another month. Over in about three.
It was... amazing.
One of many frustrating things about that situation was the time on my hands. I had all this time I was supposed to be sleeping. And I really really wanted to: I was so tired. But no, that wasn't going to happen.
So I did whatever I could to get myself tired again. Jogging, gym, squash, yoga. There were some positive effects: I'm glad I learned how to do these things. And I'm fitter than I've been in four years.
But, on the whole, I prefer the easy sleep. It's a sign of a good thing.

This is it

I love Mondays.
Today was easy to wake up to. An clear blue sky shading to white at the horizon and the brightest white light winter can provide.
I'm drinking my homemade coffee and gazing out my open window. The bay is shrouded in mist. It looks like every description of San Fransicso I've ever heard.
I have a reason for enjoying Mondays, by the way. It's not just that I like school. Often I get to sleep in more on a Monday than any other day of the week, because class only starts at 10:30. Yesterday I was so excited about the interview I woke up at 4:30, then 6 then 7.
Oh man. Less than 2 weeks before the legal memo is due. Yikes!

Go Outside!

It's such a beautiful day, and I'm in love with the world!
Oh, it was fantastic. It was brilliant. It was fun. And now, I really really want that job.
Parliamentary guiding, that is. Phil never told me how great the people are: funny and exciting from all over the place. I've been craving McGill's diversity ever since I got here and I never stopped to think this job might give it.
*reigning it in*
Ok, ok. Coherently: I'm really pleased with the group interview thing. We got along really well. And my presentation was OK, though I improvised it in the time it took to realize my original topic wasn't going to fly [IE, 4 minutes]. I'm a little worried about the written exam, but I hope everything else will make up for that.
And it looks like sooo much fun.
I find out in about two and a half weeks. If I'm really lucky, a message will be waiting on my phone when I get back from Boston. Something post-spring break to look forward to!
Ahh! It's such a lovely day! At the library, hopefully some D & D later.

State of the Spot

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: a lot can happen in a year.
The last time I watched a state of the union was in Gerts with Liberal McGill. Free beer and a list of buzz words: when the president says "homeland", drink!
Not bad. It was one of those times I went out even though I didn't want to and had fun despite myself.
And tonight? The State of the Union pre-empted my craving for fictional politics, and I'm pissed. Stacy and I were going to watch the West Wing, dammit!
We ate tomatoes with that lovely cheese and fresh basil instead.
It's nice to be doing what I really like doing in my free time.
I have become a connoisseur of my own taste.
And I say: 1984 is pretty good. I stand by it.
